The basic difference is in the design of the column material particle size which is less than 2. Ultra high performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC) with speed, resolution and sensitivity, is same as HPLC, used in analytical chemistry and pharmaceuticals. It is a column chromatography, used to examine mixtures of different analytes, for separation, based on their polarity and the interactions. When one analyte has a greater affinity for the stationary phase than for the mobile phase, it reaches the detector late. This results in better separations with longer retention times. To eliminate this, work is done under greater pressure than with HPLC. Working at both higher pressure and smaller packing material results in better resolutions, narrower peaks and reduction in retention.
